As a business owner, mother, partner and all around super-hero, I’ve come to an acceptance of being in ‘doing mode’. Honestly, there’s a comfort to being occupied. As entrepreneurs I know we complain about it, feel overwhelmed by it, and talk about it an awful lot. However, being busy is in our comfort zone because sometimes it distracts us from having to deal with deeper issues. It can give us the appearance of feeling like we are moving forward when sometimes we are simply stuck.
Ugh…I find that feeling of being stuck so
1. Make friends with the stuck feeling
We are oh so hard on ourselves when we get stuck. This moment is not a measure of your success, abilities, or anything to do with your worth. It just is. Acknowledge you are feeling stuck.
Talk and listen to the stuck-ness (I mean, literally, talk to yourself) and say “Hey! I see you are here. You must have something you need to tell me. I’m all ears when you are ready to communicate. Until then I’ll just listen and be patient with you.”
Sometimes it can feel like talking with a toddler,
2. Get physical
You literally need to get out of your mind and into your body. Walk, stretch, move, have sex, massage your feet. Anything you can do to connect with your physical body. Being stuck
3. Let yourself get bored
Remember all the talk I was saying about being busy earlier in this blog? Well, to move through feeling stuck, you gotta let yourself get bored. Like really bored. The more time you have to do nothing the better.
And I really mean nothing. No meditating, reading, talking, cooking, cleaning, moving…NOTHING. Just sit there. This may feel overwhelming to some so you can always start with a simple 5-minute timer.
From boredom sparks creativity. Why? Because it gives space for the fire to light. And remember, the spark might not come during the boredom, but randomly when you least expect it.
Happy ease to you all!
