A successful online course with the right business tools can provide you with more time and more money. I often hear from busy entrepreneurial women that there is just not enough time to start an online course. The best part of an online course is once your content is online, you can immediately have a potentially unlimited amount of customers. This is without having to do any extra work!
What does success mean to you? Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I have learned that success means freedom. Freedom to do what I want, when I want to. It means having a business that is an extension of who I am and what I am passionate about. Freedom to put aside time for what really matters to me. It’s about being there for my kids, having wonderful travel experiences and meeting inspirational people like yourself.
The first barrier to me making my course was “I don’t have enough time!” Between kids, commitments and responsibilities, it seemed impossible to have extra time to take on this task. But I was excited and enthusiastic about the idea of me turning my knowledge and experience into a course that teaches others all around the world. I was just thrilled to think about growing my business, making an impact on others and having a passive income. This is what propelled me through the creation process.
“It’s not what we get. But who we become, what we contribute that gives meaning to our lives.” -Tony Robbins, author, inspirational speaker and online course creator.
Once I made my first video and experienced the success of my course, I knew I had to teach others how.
The greatest benefit of having an online course as a part of your business offerings is it buys you time. It may take time to set up but once you do, it allows for more time to do the things that you love to do!
If you had more time to grow your business, would you know what to do with it?
We live in a day and age that information is available and you can spend a whole day researching different methods on how to create revenue for your business. I used to do this and ask myself what is the right direction for me? What would work for my business? After a day like that, I would be left feeling like I am just spinning my wheels. Some days I worked 60+ hours a week without a return. After finding success on my own and working with clients I have learned some important tools and tricks along the way.
There are very important things to consider when creating a course and growing a successful business.
Here are three helpful tips to carve out time to create your online course:
1. A business built on systems and tools can run on auto-pilot.
When I first started my business, I started asking myself what can I do to make my business work for me when I’m not working? I quickly learned that systems are your best friend. There are many tools available that will increase your efficiency and allows you to be more productive. We have a list of our favourite tools, apps and recommended training resources on our Learn page of our website. In the early days of a business, you are the owner, the manager, the salesperson and the trainer all-in-one. Using these efficiency tools will maximize your potential and therefore save you so much time and energy.
2. Learn when to say “no”
Learning how and when to say “no” is one of the most important things you can do, professionally and personally. Saying “no” is essential for being able to hold space for what you would like to say “yes” to. I have seen it with clients in the past, where they say “yes” to every order or every potential client. They would end up feeling underappreciated, underpaid or overworked. They sometimes felt an intuitive ping that this may not be the work for them, took it on and quickly regretted it. Our intuition can be our greatest guidance system. Taking time to listen to that gut feeling can save us time, energy and sometimes even heartbreak.
Set clear objectives and priorities. What kind of work do you really want to do?
When we have a habit of saying “yes” to everything, the net we cast pulls in jobs, clients and experiences, we would not have chosen for ourselves.
Put some time aside to ask yourself:
- What type of work is the most profitable work for my business?
- Who is my target customer or client?
- What are the most rewarding projects to work on?
Having a clear idea of your goals, priorities and standards gives a purpose to your “no” and therefore allows you to stand behind your decision why.
